Riboflavin, or vitamin B2, is a water-soluble flavin that is a member of the vitamin B family. The coenzymes flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) are precursors of riboflavin. In addition to coming from various food sources, bacteria can also manufacture small amounts of vitamin B2. Because vitamin B2 is crucial for the absorption of other vitamins, a lack of it can affect regular bodily functions and cause a number of health problems. Green vegetables and some nuts are good sources of riboflavin, although meat and fortified foods are the main sources.
